b3nch is part of the City of Omaha’s Take a Seat program, a public art initiative that solicited bench designs for the Gene Leahy Mall. The design of b3nch was conceived of as two elements, the base and the seat. The base, poised as if it is ready to pounce, leaves the viewer with a sense of movement. The seat was treated as a single sheet of material that was cut and folded to create personalized spaces for people to sit. The folded vocabulary also facilitated the deterrent features which were desired by the client.
